The
most effective way to protect against flu is to get vaccinated each year.
- The Seasonal flu vaccine protects against three viruses research shows will be most common.
- Vaccine for the 2011-2012 has been approved by the U.S. FDA and contains vaccine to protect against the same viruses as the 2010-2011 season.
- If you received the flu shot in the 2010-2011, you should still get vaccinated with the 2011-2012 Seasonal Flu shot since immunity declines
over time and may be too low to provi9de protection after a year.
- In New Jersey, all children 6 mos.- 59 mos. must receive a flu vaccination if they attend a licensed child-care center or pre-school.
- DO NOT be vaccinated if you:
- Have a severe allergy to chicken eggs
- Have had a severe reaction to an influenza vaccination
- Have developed Guillain-Barre syndrome (GBS) within 6 wks of a flu vaccine
- Children less than 6 months of age
